Cozy Powell enjoyed a diverse career. A good drummer is well in demand, and Cozy kept busy beating away at the drums for over 30 years. Before he played with the legendary Black Sabbath, he appeared with popular musicians like Jeff Beck, and would later play with the likes of Jack Bruce, and Jon Lord. He would also grace the stage with such bands as Ronnie James Dio’s Rainbow, Whitesnake, Emerson, Lake and Powell, which followed Emerson, Lake and Palmer. He has appeared with greats Roger Daltry, and Brian May. As a session drummer, he had the chance to play diverse styles of music, and he even appeared on a Comedy Central (c) Comedy Relief special. Unfortunately, Cozy was enjoying somewhat of a comeback when he was tragically killed in a car accident. He had been rehearsing with the guitar master Yngwie Malmsteen and was getting ready to tour with Malmsteen when he was killed in a high-speed car crash. He was by himself in his car when he lost control of the vehicle, smashing into the center divider. He died as a result of his injuries while in the hospital.
