Joe SatrianiBorn: July 15, 1956 Westbury, NY, USA | |
Joe Satriani grew up in New York. He has worked as a session musician in Japan. He has given guitar lessons to such people as Kirk Hammett, Charlie Hunter, and Steve Vai. After a failed band, the Squares, he released a solo album, Joe Satriani. After one album with the Greg Kihn Band, Joe released Not of This Earth, which was marginal, especially compared with Surfing with the Alien, which was the following album. This album enjoyed huge success and crossed over onto the pop charts, even though there were no vocals on the entire album. After doing some work with Mick Jagger's solo band, he released Flying in a Blue Dream in the early 90's. In 1994, he replaced Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple, but has since released more solo material. Joe Satriani is one of the most versatile guitarists around today.
