Zakk Wylde

Born: 1967
Jersey City, NJ, USA

Zakk was at the young age of 4 when he began piano lessons, but just after 4 lessons, he quit. But, by the time he was 12, he was taking lessons again, and after just 3 lessons, he quit again, but this time he continued to teach himself how to play. By the time he was 15, he had switched to the guitar, and by the time he had turned 17, he was joining bands and playing in bars around town. He built a reputation for being fast and soulful, and it was after a gig that an audience member asked him if he had considered auditioning for Ozzy Osbourne's opening. And, even though he hadn't previously considered trying out for the band, he put together a tape and sent it to Ozzy. Ozzy sent for him to audition. As before with Randy Rhoads and Jake E. Lee, Ozzy immediately like Zakk's style and look, and hired him immediately. After being hired in, Zakk contributed to four albums, including the phenomenally popular No More Tears and the grammy-nominated Ozzmosis. Despite the success, Zakk wanted to get back to his Southern Rock routes, so he left Ozzy's band to form Pride and Glory. Pride and Glory experienced some success with their 1994 self-titled debut album. He followed this with the acoustic Book of Shadows album, and then disbanded Pride and Glory to form Black Label Society.
