John Denver

Born: December 31, 1943
Roswell, NM, USA
Died: October 12, 1997

Although intensely made fun of in the 70's for his mushy and cheesy lyrics, John Denver managed to make a large mark on the country music industry, crossing over into pop charts while maintaining his home-spun, country boy image. He banded together with fellow musicians Dee Snyder and Frank Zappa to fight the PMRC and censorshiop at the congressional hearings in 1985. He also supported many environmental causes. Sadly, John Denver crashed his single-engine airplane into Monterey Bay, California. He was actually enjoying an artistic comeback when this happened, which makes it all the more tragic.
