Performed on piano at the age of 4, lead his own band at 14. Self taught on bass saxophone. Besides his regular work with The California Ramblers he also made many historic recordings with Bix Beiderbecke, Red Nichols, Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang. spent the late 1920s in England playing with Fred Elizalde's band at the Savoy Hotel. Opened his own club, "Adrian's Tap Room" in New York 1935.
